This website
- No cookies, no analytics, no trackers. The site loads nothing from other websites: its text, pictures and fonts all come from this address.
- The site is served by Cloudflare, which handles each request to deliver the page. We have not turned on any visitor analytics.
- The beta buttons take you to Apple's TestFlight, Google Play, or your own email app. What happens there is up to those services and to you.
- If you email us to join the Android beta, we use your Google Play address only to add it to the testers list, and your email only to reply.
The app
In the App Store and Google Play the app is listed as The Smelly Index. In short:
- No account, nothing collected. Your collection, ranks, notes, journal and settings are stored only on your device. We don't collect, sell or share them, and the app has no analytics, advertising or tracking.
- AI features, when you use them. Ideas, descriptions, looking up a perfume the catalog doesn't have, reading a list, a bottle photo or a shelf photo: the request goes to our own service with a random install ID made on your phone, and the service asks OpenAI to answer. Photos and request text are not stored. Use is counted per install and per network to keep it fair; the network address is kept only as a one-way hash.
- Bottle pictures and exchange rates come through the same service. A picture is asked for by its catalog number only; the rate table carries nothing about you and is the same for everyone.
- Shops near you asks for your approximate location while you use it. It sorts the list on your phone and is never sent or stored.
- Backups are files you make and share yourself. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored on your device.
