The Scent Index Get the beta

Free beta · iPhone and Android

Every bottle you own, ranked and remembered.

The Scent Index keeps your perfumes, decants and wishlist on your phone: what each one smells like, what you reach for, and what you already have before you buy another.

In the App Store and Google Play as The Smelly Index. No account, no sign-in: your collection stays on your phone.

The Shelf: bottles in your own order, each tile tinted by its scent family. Today: your signature scent, and a pick from what you own with Wear this and Shuffle.

See it in 90 seconds

The app, from first perfume to last spray

Search the catalog, read a perfume from top to base, sort the ones to try from the ones to buy, and keep a journal of what you wore. Shown with demo data on the app's own phone interface.

Three steps from a shelf of bottles to a collection you know

  1. 1

    Add what you own

Photograph a bottle or a whole shelf, search the catalog by name, or import a list from a spreadsheet. Nothing is saved until you say so.

  2. 2

    Rank it and wear it

Drag bottles into your own order, rate them, and log what you wear. Your journal fills in the stats.

  3. 3

    Know before you buy

Keep a wishlist of what to try and what to buy, and see which of your own bottles smell close to anything you're eyeing.

Collection, shelf and wishlist

Bottles, decants and the ones you want, kept apart

Your shelf holds full bottles and decants; your wishlist holds what's next, in three lists: To try, To buy and Tried, with your verdict once you've smelled it. Every tile is tinted by its scent family, so a glance tells you what kind of collection you have.

  • Search by name, house, note or your own tags
  • Filter by family; sort by your rank, house, name or most worn
  • A wishlist perfume moves to the shelf with "I bought it"
The Shelf with ten bottles and two decants, family chips and the bottles in rank order. The Wishlist with To try, To buy and Tried, and three perfumes in order.

Perfume pages

See a perfume's notes in colour

Every perfume has its own page: the top, heart and base notes as the catalog lists them, each in the colour of its family with a small drawing, then the main accords, strongest first. Your rating, wears and notes sit beside them.

  • A pyramid you can read at a glance: citrus, floral, woody, amber…
  • Compare any two perfumes side by side, shared notes marked
  • Facts come from the catalog; nothing is guessed
Baccarat Rouge 540's notes: saffron and jasmine at the top, amberwood, ambergris and hedione in the heart, fir resin, cedar, sugar, ambroxan and oakmoss in the base, then its main accords.

Alike in your collection

"You already have something like this"

Open any perfume and the app shows which of your own bottles smell close to it, and why: the notes they share and the accords they both lead with. Here, a well-known alternative to Aventus points straight back at the Aventus already on the shelf.

  • "Very close" or "Quite close", by the same fixed bars for every pair
  • Rarer shared notes count for more; bergamot and musk alone don't
  • Worked out on your phone. Nothing is ranked or hidden

Add many at once

Photograph your shelf, tick what's yours

Take up to ten photos a day, four to six bottles each, labels facing the camera. AI lists the bottles it sees, and a bottle is ticked only when your phone's own reading of the label confirms it. Guesses are marked and never ticked for you.

  • Already in your collection? It says so
  • Choose bottles, decants or the wishlist once for the batch
  • The photo is read and not kept. Nothing is saved until you tap Add
Photograph your shelf: 4 of 6 bottles found, Layton, Libre and Oud Wood ticked, Santal 33 already in your collection.

The crate, and your own order

Flip through your bottles like records

Switch the shelf to a crate of sleeves and swipe through it, one bottle at a time. Back on the grid, hold a bottle and drag it to where it belongs: your ranking is yours, and the app never reorders it.

  • Hold, drag, drop: the others slide out of the way
  • Or use Reorder, with Move up and Move down buttons
  • Separate rankings for bottles, decants and the wishlist
The crate: square sleeves leaning away on both sides of Tobacco Vanille. A bottle held and lifted on the shelf grid, the other cards moving to make room.

Stats

What you actually wear

Log a wear in two taps and the numbers build themselves: wears by month, how much of your collection you've worn lately, how it grew, its note families and accords, most and least worn, and cost per wear when you've noted a price.

  • A journal of every wear, with compliments and occasions
  • "Not worn lately", for the bottles that deserve another go
  • Counted on your phone, never sent
Collection stats: wears by month as bars, the share of the collection worn in 30 days, 90 days, 12 months and all time, and collection growth. Note families across the collection as coloured bars: spicy, woody, amber, earthy, citrus, floral and more.

Shops near you · Singapore

Where to smell it before you buy it

A hand-checked list of 95 Singapore shops that sell perfume, sorted by how far they are from you. A perfume's page lists the shops that say they carry its house, with Directions in your own maps app.

  • Your location is used on the phone only, never sent or stored
  • Without it, shops are listed by postcode, or by distance from a place you pick
  • Pop-ups carry their dates; the app never claims stock
Shops near you: perfume shops at Plaza Singapura and on Orchard Road, each with its distance, address, the houses it carries and Directions.

Currency

Your currency, wherever the price was

Set your currency once. A price target keeps the currency you typed it in, and anything in another currency is shown converted, marked ≈, at the European Central Bank's daily reference rates.

  • The amount you entered is never rewritten
  • The rates' date is always shown
  • A guide, not a rate to pay at
Settings, Currency: Singapore Dollar chosen, with a note on how amounts are converted at the ECB's reference rates of 14 October 2026.

Privacy

Your collection lives on your phone

There is no account to make and nothing to sign in to. Your perfumes, ranks, notes, journal and settings are stored on your device, and nowhere else.

How this site and the app handle your data

  • No account. Open the app and start; delete it and everything it stored goes with it.
  • No ads, no analytics, no tracking, in the app or on this site.
  • Backups are files you keep. Move your whole collection to a new phone, or keep a copy, and it goes only where you send it.
  • AI only when you ask. Ideas, descriptions and reading a label or a shelf photo go through our own service, counted for fair use; photos are not kept.
  • Pictures and rates carry nothing about you. A bottle picture is asked for by its catalog number; the day's exchange rates are the same for everyone.
  • Location stays put. Shops near you sorts on your phone; your location is never sent.

Questions

How do I get the app?

It's in beta. On iPhone, install Apple's TestFlight app, then open the beta link on your phone. On Android, email us with your Google Play email address; once you're on the testers list, opt in at the Play test page and install it from Google Play.

Why is it called The Smelly Index in the stores?

That's the name it's listed under in the App Store and Google Play for now. It's the same app.

Does it cost anything?

The beta is free.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no account and no sign-in. Your collection is kept on your phone.

How do I move my collection to a new phone?

Make a backup in Settings, send the file to yourself, and restore it on the new phone. It carries your perfumes, ranks, notes, wears and archive.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The catalog is on your phone, so searching, adding, ranking, logging wears and the stats all work without a connection. AI ideas, reading a shelf photo, bottle pictures and the day's exchange rates need one.

Where do the perfume facts come from?

From the app's catalog: house, name, year, perfumers, notes and main accords. What the app can't find stays blank rather than guessed. Descriptions are written by AI from the catalog's facts.

Does it tell me what to buy?

No. You rank, rate and decide. AI ideas in Explore are marked as such, each with its reason, and nothing the app suggests changes your lists until you act.

Is Shops near you only for Singapore?

For now, yes: 95 shops, checked by hand. More cities would each be a list of their own.

Which languages does it speak?

Sixteen: English, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.
